MADEIRA

Madeira Portugal Trip

Trip to Madeira, Portugal Island

Described as the Pearl of the Atlantic, the island of Madeira is a beautiful part of the world to visit throughout the year. This autonomous region since 1973 of Portugal has become a point of tourist interest and it is easy to see why. With beautiful scenery, interesting wildlife and bustling cities, it has everything anyone could want for a sunny getaway. Here is the selection of things to do to tempt you to go.

Ponta de São Lourenço

Located on the eastern side of the island, the Ponta de São Lourenço hike is quite long, but it’s worth a visit. Once here you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views of Madeira and the surrounding islands with a very beautiful rock and hundreds of thousands of lizards at your feet … There is a dedicated hiking trail that has been upgraded in recent years and that will take you to the secluded beach of Prainha. It is the only natural beach of black sand of Madeira but unfortunately this beach is located all the bottom and this beach is very small, you can always go there to touch this beautiful black sand.

Mercado Dos Lavradores

To have a real feel of Madeiran life, I visited one of the markets. I headed to the capital of Funchal to see Mercado Dos Lavradores booming while buying local fruit, watch out the fruits are very expensive!

The building in which it is located has been in the heart of the old town of Funchal since 1940 and was designed to be a place where locals would sell their products. Today, you will find everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to fish caught this morning with smells that you will certainly not forget…

Magic Dolphins

Madeira Portugal Trip

Swimming with dolphins or a boat ride to see is often very common on the island. Favor to a large number of dolphins and whales, it is sure to see in the Atlantic Ocean. A number of companies offer excursions to see the dolphins and others will allow you to swim alongside these beautiful creatures. Snorkel in the water and watch the dolphins stroll by your boat.

Jardim Tropical Monte Palace

In Funchal, there are several tropical gardens, each one more beautiful than the others: the botanical garden, the garden of the orchids, the large garden of the Monte Palace which offers a superb panorama on the terraces and the garden of the Quinta Das Cruzes dotted with Manueline ruins …
I recommend to go to Jardim Tropical Monte Palace by funicular (15min from the center of Funchal) and to descend in sleds. Guaranteed sensations!

Porto Moniz

Located at the northwestern tip of Madeira, Porto Moniz is renowned for its natural pools formed in volcanic reefs. Swimming in these warm waters sheltered from the rocks of black lava is pleasant.
Out of season, Porto Moniz also deserves the detour for its spectacular rocky coastline and its waves of 7 meters high in bad weather !
